Rugby club faces suspension

The University of Sussex Students’ Union has issued sanctions against the Men’s Rugby Club in response to the incident that took place on campus on the night of October 21st, in which a female student was sexually harassed.
Following the decision of the Activities Committee, which constitutes students elected to represent the Union’s clubs and societies alongside a number of full time elected officers, the Men’s Rugby Club has been suspended. This means that the club will not be able to play fixtures, practice, or have activities as a society.
The USSU has stated that, “the committee will review this decision in five weeks’ time. Further, we understand that the club is appealing the Committee’s decision. This appeal will be considered at the next weekly meeting of the Activities Committee.”
Expressing their position, the USSU has condemned “all instances of sexual harassment and violence” as “an extremely serious matter.”

Women’s Football Wet Weather Woe
October 28, 2009 by Amanda Larg · 1 Comment
The women’s football team played their first match of the season against Sussex Downs College on Wednesday. Despite losing and getting soaked to the skin, the team showed that they can play good football. Throughout the match, lack of concentration at points, the fact that it was the first time most players were on the pitch together, terrible weather conditions and unfitness lead to a negative result at the end of the match. However, some good football was played and it was a great chance for the new members of the team to get to know everyone in preparation for the first BUCS match of the season next week

Men’s Hockey had a friendly match between each other on Wednesday to try out the new players who turned up to trials.
With new rules introduced this year, it was also a great opportunity to experience these rules within a match scenario and with referees. As expected, the 1st XI got a convincing win.
On the game Tom Le Coq said: “Both teams showed great potential and we are all gearing up for the first BUCS match next week.”
