Sussex to hold a memorial service for Hester
May 18, 2009 by George Lindsay-Watson
A memorial service will be held in the Meeting House on campus this week on Friday 22nd May in honour of Hester Stewart who died last month. Friends and family will gather to pay their respects and celebrate her life.
The memorial is taking place following the small funeral which was held May 8th at Woodvale Crematorium and which was presided over by a family friend.
On the Facebook group set up in her memory, her sister, Phoebe Stewart, said ‘The idea of the memorial service is to celebrate Hester’s life and share your memories of time with her’. The service is open to anyone who would like to say goodbye to Hester. It will be a lot larger than the funeral which was attended by close family and friends.
Friends who would like to participate in the ceremony and share their memories of Hester are asked to get in touch with either her Mother Maryon or sister Phoebe via Facebook.
Hester Stewart, 2nd yr Molecular Medicine student, was found dead at a house in Patcham on the morning of the 26th April. It is believed she overdosed on legal drug GBL. A man was questioned in conjunction with her death but no charges were brought. Hester’s families have started a campaign to have the drug banned in the UK.
The memorial service will take place at the Meeting House on Sussex Campus, Friday 22nd May, 2.30pm.
