Prank ensures ‘higher education’

The time-honoured tradtion of school pranks was taken to new heights by students in Florida when Cypress Creek High School in Orange County had its chairs and tables moved from inside classrooms and repositioned on the roof.
The furniture was prominently displayed for the entertainment of the rest of the student body by a group of seniors who snuck into the school’s grounds to commit the annual senior’s prank.
End-of-year school pranks are familiar to all, but perhaps not one of quite such impressive proportions. According to the authorities, 100 students meticulously arranged as many chairs in neat squares on the roofs of 20 portable classrooms. The furniture, glinting as it caught the early morning sun, was visible from hundreds of feet in the air and the ambitious prank made international news.
Principal Susan Storch struggled to appreciate the amusing side of the antics. “Unfortunately, what may have been meant as harmless fun resulted in a significant disruption to our school day,’ she said, threatening the perpetrators with suspension or possible exclusion from their graduation ceremonies as punishment for their ‘crime’.
At about 7 a.m., staff discovered the practical joke and swiftly dealt with it, returning the furniture to the classroom in time for the start of class at 9.30 am. Contrary to Storch’s account, the prank resulted in no disruption to lessons.
