Green week has teeth
May 4, 2009 by George Lindsay-Watson
The Debating Chamber was host to an unexpected visitor on Wednesday in the form of Snappy, the baby crocodile. Snappy wowed students at a talk by Colin Stevenson of the Gharial Conservation Alliance.
He was bought along to emphasise the plight of the Gharials, a critically endangered species of crocodile renown for their long, narrow jaws. There are less than 400 breeding couples left in the wild.
The talk was part of the Green Week celebrations, raising awareness of environmental issues across campus. Other events included guided ecological walks, meditation lessons and Sussex Roots open lunch.
Snappy may have not been the usual lunchtime treat at Falmer House but he was a great success and he certainly caused a stir for a very important cause.
