As a student living off-campus, I know that a minority of students just do not know how to behave without their mummy and daddy about. They spend hours kicking about litter, as if they were bored 11-year-olds instead of supposedly educated twenty-somethings. I think they must have been teetolalers before they came to Sussex judging by the way they drink spirits and then are amazed that they can't stand up straight. When the students arrive in August it is a nightmare with marauding hoards of thirty or more drunk students hanging out in the streets sometimes until 4.00am every Friday and Saturday night...screaming and yelling all night.. Its awful. I am happy for them to hang and and have fun.. but not in a residential street. The Unis should provide adequate housing on campus for all students... and they can make as much noise as they like...the HMOs in my area are the most run down and uncared for properties with rubbish outside all year round. Undecorated and uncared for houses which really bring the neighbourhood down. When the students are away ...bliss! I live on a street with a number of HMOs on it.
