Beer goggles research
May 4, 2009 by Phil Butler
Scientists at the University of Leicester have presented evidence disputing the existence of “beer goggles.”
“Beer Goggles” is the name given to the idea that people look more attractive when you are under the influence of alcohol.
In their investigations, 240 heterosexual people aged 18-70 were given photos of different women and were asked to comment on the age and rate the attractiveness of each one. On average, those male participants who had consumed alcohol rated the women as less attractive than their sober counterparts did.
However women were more inclined to rate them as more attractive after consuming alcohol. It also seems that alcohol did not affect a man’s ability to guess a woman’s age and that makeup did not affect the attractiveness of the woman.
So the next time you get hammered and decide to fornicate with someone or something then try and remember: it’s not the beer goggles, or indeed the gin telescopes, that tricked you into this course of action!
