Poorer students forced to live at home

A major NUS study published last week has identified students from low-income households as those more likely to study from home. The study, funded and conducted in association with HSBC, quizzed 3,135 undergraduates at 146 universities and colleges about their experiences and expectations of the UK system; covering everything from choosing a course and university to accommodation, welfare services, student employment and bullying.

Oxford University opens new animal testing lab

Animal testing began at Oxford University earlier this month in a new £18m Biomedical Sciences building after years of protest about the construction of the animal laboratory. The biomedical building seeks to re-house research animals from various older sites across the university into the new facility, which, according to the university, exceeds Home Office regulations and sets a “gold standard for animal care.” Read more
