3D? No thanks!

I’ll say it as it is; for people who claim to truly love the cinema, the introduction and preoccupation with the new 3-D craze can be nothing but an annoyance. The movie-going public have been bombarded of late with new ‘special event’ and ‘limited screenings’ of 3D films such as Bolt and Monsters vs. Aliens, not to mention the re-release of cult-favourite The Nightmare Before Christmas. Is all of this really necessary?

The sterility of the suburban life can seem an easy target when wanting to expose the superficial weaknesses to which so much of humanity succumbs, but director Sam Mendes chooses instead to focus on the people rather than lifestyle; which is to blame he puts up for debate in the thrilling and devastating drama Revolutionary Road (based on the 1961 novel by Richard Yates), where bored 1950s couple Frank and April Wheeler struggle to break free from an existence they never wanted in the first place.

Nearly every crime thriller centres its moral high-ground on the issues of trust and deception. It is one of those given clichés that a traitor will be uncovered as the reason why there has been an impossible leakage of vital information, or the best-friend tempted by a better offer betrays his former sidekick. Luckily ‘Body of Lies’ is smarter than a lot of these films, but that doesn’t stop it essentially sticking to the formula that knows best.
