Valentine’s date with a twist…?
February 9, 2009 by Rachael Wheatley
For those who fancy something a little bit different from the normal Valentine’s Day date, the world of performance has a lot to offer come 14th of February!
Valentine’s-themed comedy will be provided by Upstairs at the Three and Ten, in the form of a special edition of comedy night Sitting on a Rug, renamed for one night only as Snogging on a Rug. The show features story-telling comic Terry Saunders and two other comedians (to be confirmed) sharing anecdotes, jokes and a whole host of comic tales. Past editions of this night have been critically acclaimed, with The Argus saying that ‘the experience of seeing three great stand-ups kick back was just as warm as the title suggested’. Plus, with tickets at just £5 for students, Snogging on a Rug is a great way to laugh your way through Valentine’s Day without breaking the bank.
But, if you’re feeling more flush this February, why not treat yourself to a night of indulgence at the Hanbury Club. This incredibly cool and beautifully decorated club in Kemp Town is hosting Cupid’s Bow, a night of entertainment featuring DJs, singers, dancers, percussionists and poets, with a sumptuous romantic boudoir to boot. At £12.50, the tickets aren’t cheap, but the entertainment stretches out from 7pm until 2am, and it’s guaranteed to be a unique night of entertainment and indulgence that will impress your date no end!
And, for those with even more moolah burning a hole in their pockets, the Concorde 2 presents a ‘Vintage Burlesque Extravaganza’ featuring all manner of burlesque performers and DJs from 8pm into the early hours. Tickets are a non-student friendly £15, but hey, who cares about money when you have love?!
